About Us
Real Urban Geographics was established in 2003 to provide an economical and responsive source of GIS capabilities to companies and municipalities that previously had limited and cost-prohibitive options in this area. We’ve found the response to our services encouraging; established clients continue to turn to us, and new clients are coming on board regularly.
We work on an hourly or task-based fee structure depending on our clients needs, scope, and estimated duration.
GIS has historically been an arcane and expensive discipline reserved for large projects and huge companies with national and international scope. We know this because we used to work for those companies. We unlock the potential of GIS for those working in our areas of expertise at a somewhat smaller scale, from sole propriotorships to regional corporations with hundreds of employees. Some of our larger clients maintain in-house GIS resources, but find us a useful reserve when those native resources are overextended or could be put to better use addressing the clients core capabilities. With the rapid pace of change and increasing complexity in GIS software, data availability, and applications, those folks who have a secondary or tertiary GIS responsibility frequently find themselves behind the curve when it comes time to address intermittant GIS tasks. We are here using the technology every day, and we love to work with others that “speak GIS” and can make full use of the products and analyses we produce on their own platforms.
Our smaller clients benefit from what is essentially their own on-call GIS department, with the same capabilities as those at many Fortune 500 companies. We like to operate as if we were down the hall, available on short notice and always with the perspective of being a part of the team. Your problems are our problems. While we are happy to do it by the book, our contracting arrangements are frequently informal and are based on trust as well as legal obligation, allowing for a flexibility you might expect of an employee or partner. In general, our goal is to make our clients look better, smarter, and sharper than their competition without a large administrative footprint.
